A BILL to amend the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §6B-3-8a, relating to limiting a lobbyist who formerly worked as a government officer or employee from lobbying a current government officer or employee until one year after employment with the government ceased.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §6B-3-8a, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 3. LOBBYISTS.
§6B-3-8a. Limitations on former government officers or employees.
Any lobbyist that was formerly a government officer or employee may not participate in any lobbying activity with any current government officer or employee until one year has passed from the date that the lobbyist's employment with the government ceased.
Any person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than fifty dollars nor more than one thousand dollars or confined in the county or regional jail not more than one year, or both fined and imprisoned.



NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to restrict a lobbyist who was formerly a government officer or employee from lobbying a current government officer or employee until one year has passed since the lobbyist ceased employment with the government.
